About This ZIP & Postal Code Finder

TheAshNow Global ZIP & Postal Code Finder is a free, no-signup tool that lets you find postal codes for cities worldwide or look up location details for any postal code. Results are sourced from Zippopotam.us (60+ countries) and OpenStreetMap Nominatim for global coverage.

What is a ZIP Code?

ZIP stands for Zone Improvement Plan. The US Postal Service introduced it in 1963 to improve mail sorting and delivery. A US ZIP code is 5 digits (e.g., 10001 for Midtown Manhattan). ZIP+4 codes add 4 more digits for precise delivery.

ZIP Code vs Postal Code

ZIP code is the US-specific term. The UK uses Postcodes (e.g., SW1A 1AA). Canada uses Postal Codes in alphanumeric format (e.g., M5V 3A8). India uses PIN codes (6 digits). Australia uses 4-digit postcodes. All serve the same geographic routing purpose.
